What made me decide to be a birth photographer? My Personal Story
When I became a photographer, a friend and doula reached out to me and asked if I would consider offering birthing photography. I spent time researching, and even talking to friends who have had their birth's photographed, and I was quite frankly moved by what I heard. One of my friends told me that she loves to look over the video and the pictures to help her remember the experience. Who was there, that kiss her husband gave her, her mother in law holding her hand…. So many moments she just didn’t remember because during her birth she was in a state of unawareness. Looking back at those beautiful moments and seeing the story unfold meant the world to her.
As a mother, my family and children are two of the most precious things to me. I have struggled with endometriosis my entire life and dealt with infertility. After 5 years of not being able to get pregnant, I miscarried my first. Finally my beautiful oldest was born but then I miscarried again. Finally we decided to adopt and during the process, I had our second son. Our family was complete when my beautiful daughter was adopted from China. My children are such a precious gift to me.
Before I had children, I worked as a registered nurse. What some might feel uncomfortable with, I see as beautiful, and I feel honored and blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of such a special story. Birth is the story of a miracle, a blessing, and a gift, and birth photography is a way to remember that story so that it can be cherished and celebrated with family.
